Our History

Lynn Haven Baptist Church began as a mission on the third Sunday of November in 1960 when a group of twelve people met for the purpose of organizing a Southern Baptist Church in the Lynn Haven area of Vinton. These twelve people enlisted the support of Vinton Baptist Church and the Roanoke Baptist Missionary and Social Union, which is the Mission Committee of the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association. Reverend H.W. Connelly, D.D. was asked to serve as pastor. An organizational meeting was held on June 4, 1961 and eighty-six people were present who then became charter members.

Since its humble beginning, Lynn Haven has experienced many peaks and even a few valleys, but the beauty of this congregation is that while on the mountaintops, we have stayed humble and even thankful, and down in the valley, we have been steadfast in continuing to trust in the Lord and follow Jesus. No matter what our circumstances are or season we are in, Lynn Haven Baptist Church has always been determined to be the light of the world and salt of the earth, just as our Lord asked us to be.

In the sixty-five year history of our church, this congregation has been blessed through the ministry of eleven different pastors and multiple interim pastors, each bringing unique gifts being used by God to shepherd His flock. In addition to those eleven faithful men, God has blessed Lynn Haven with many staff ministers and church employees that have aided in equipping the saints to be the hands and feet of Christ here at Lynn Haven.

While our world has changed, our community has changed, and even our congregation has changed over the years, our commitment and goal has never wavered from the vision that first small, faithful group of believers prayed about and began working toward: being disciples, making disciples, and becoming more like Christ today than we were yesterday. May that never change until the day our Lord returns for His church!
